Privacy Policy

1. Who we are
SplitKin (“SplitKin”, “we”, “us”) operates the care-coordination service available at splitkin.com. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, store, share, and protect information.
2. What we collect
- Account data: email address, name (if you set one), authentication tokens issued by our identity provider, sign-in timestamps, and user-agent strings.
- Care-circle content: messages you and your invited family members post in a shared care circle, attachments where applicable, and the events, expenses, decisions, and tasks the AI extracts from those messages.
- Billing data: if you subscribe, our payment processor (Stripe) handles the transaction. We store the resulting customer ID, subscription status, renewal date, and the last four digits of your card. We do not see or store full card numbers, CVC codes, or billing address details.
- Push subscription endpoints: if you opt in to notifications, we store the technical details (endpoint URL, public keys) required to send your browser a notification.
- Diagnostic and operational data:error traces, performance metrics, and aggregated usage counters. We don’t profile users for marketing.
We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. SplitKin is not designed for or directed to anyone under 18.
3. What we do with it
- Provide the Service: store and display your messages, extract caregiving data, compute fairness metrics, send invites, deliver email and push notifications.
- Send service emails (sign-in links, invite acceptance, billing receipts, security alerts). We do not send marketing emails without an opt-in.
- Diagnose and fix bugs. Aggregate non-identifying error data informs reliability improvements.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service and Legal Disclaimer.
We do not sell your data. We do not use your messages to train any AI model, ours or anyone else’s.
4. AI processing
We use Claude (operated by Anthropic) to extract structured data from your chat messages. Each message is sent to Anthropic with the minimum context required (the message text, the poster’s name, the parent’s name, the circle’s member list, and the current date). Per Anthropic’s API terms, your inputs are not used to train their models.
The AI is provided on an “as-is” basis and may produce inaccurate output. Verify extractions before relying on them. See our Legal Disclaimer.
5. Data sharing and third parties
We share data with the third-party providers we depend on to deliver the Service:
- Supabase (database, authentication, storage). Hosted in the United States.
- Anthropic (AI extraction).
- Stripe (payment processing).
- Resend (transactional email).
- Vercel (web hosting and edge delivery).
Each provider processes your data only to the extent necessary to deliver the Service. We do not sell, rent, or otherwise share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
We may disclose information if required to do so by law, valid legal process, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to comply with legal obligations, enforce our Terms, or protect the rights, property, or safety of SplitKin, our users, or others.
6. Data location and transfers
Data is processed and stored primarily in the United States. If you are accessing the Service from outside the US, you understand and consent to the transfer of your data to the US, where data-protection laws may differ from those of your country.
7. Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. On account deletion, we delete your profile, memberships, messages, and extractions. Some records may be retained in backups or to comply with legal obligations (for example, tax records related to billing).
8. Your choices and rights
- Edit or delete extractionsfrom each tab’s row controls.
- Delete a message within 30 minutes of posting (the author only). Linked extractions go with it.
- Delete your account from Settings → Profile.
- Disable notifications from Settings → Notifications.
- Export your data by emailing hello@splitkin.com. We will respond within 30 days.
Depending on where you live (for example, the European Union, United Kingdom, or California), you may have additional rights including the right to access, rectify, delete, restrict, or object to processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability. To exercise these rights, email privacy@splitkin.com.
9. Security
We use industry-standard administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your data, including encryption in transit, restricted access controls, and scoped service tokens.
No method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information. To the maximum extent permitted by law, SplitKin disclaims any warranty regarding data security and is not liable for any unauthorized access or use that occurs despite reasonable safeguards.
10. Cookies and similar technologies
We use only the cookies and similar technologies necessary to operate the Service, including authentication cookies and CSRF tokens. We do not use third-party advertising cookies, behavioral profiling, or cross-site tracking.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when our practices change. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the latest version. For material changes that affect existing users, we will email you at least 30 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
